They’re gearing up for a showstopping headlining performance at Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday February 29.

And 27-year-old British singer Sam Smith was all smiles as they made their way through arrivals at Sydney International Airport on Monday.

The Stay With Me hitmaker kept a low profile, wearing casual attire for the long-haul flight, opting for their trademark favorite pair of Nike track pants and a black T-shirt.

Despite keeping a low profile, Sam looked happy to be back on Australian shores, and smiled as they walked through the busy airport terminal toward a waiting car.

Sam was flanked by a bevvy of people, including two burly men, and a woman wearing a foot brace, who shielded her face from paparazzi.

Sam came out as non-binary last year. They had previously identified as a man, but now identifies neither exclusively as a man nor a woman.

The I’m Not the Only One crooner has asked fans, loved ones and media to refer to them using ‘they/them’ pronouns.

‘Non-binary / gender-queer is that you do not identify in a gender,’ Sam told actress and activist Jameela Jamil in March last year.

‘You are a mixture of all different things. You are your own special creation. That’s how I take it – I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between – it’s all on the spectrum.’
