Katy Perry on Taylor Swift former feud: ‘We don’t have a very close relationship’

Katy Perry has revealed she ‘doesn’t have a close relationship’ with Taylor Swift. 

After publicly ending their six-year feud last year, Katy, 35, told Australian magazine Stellar on Sunday that the two women are too busy to maintain a friendship. 

She added that the driving force behind her reconciliation with Taylor, 30, last year was for them to be an ‘example of unity’ to their fans around the world. 

Katy, who surprised fans by appearing in the music video for Taylor’s track You Need To Calm Down last year, said: ‘Forgiveness is important. It’s so powerful. If you can forgive your enemy, that’s amazing. As difficult as it is!’

When asked about her friendship with Taylor now, Katy added: ‘Well, we don’t have a very close relationship because we are very busy, but we text a lot.’

Katy went on to praise Taylor’s recent Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, where she revealed that she refuses to stay silent on politics any more. 

‘I saw some self-awareness and a lot of vulnerability,’ said Katy of the documentary. 

‘I was really excited for her to be able to show the world that things aren’t perfect, they don’t have to be and it’s more beautiful when they aren’t. 

The pop stars, who were once close friends, fell out in 2014, when Katy is claimed to have ‘stole’ some of Taylor’s backup dancers from her Red world tour. 

Last year, Taylor told Heart Breakfast it was Katy that instigated their reunion.

The Bad Blood hitmaker revealed: ‘We reconnected a while ago. It started when she sent an olive branch to, like an actual olive branch to my tour – on the first day of my Reputation Stadium tour and I was like, that is not only really cool and really sincere, the note but like, very clever with sending an actual olive branch.’

Taylor continued by explaining that the gesture removed any tension and bad feeling from their argument and they decided to put their feud behind them.

She explained: ‘It was like a beautiful wreath and you could hang it, it was really so great. And so that was when you know I think for both of us it was completely like there was no weird feelings.’

Taylor then asked Katy to appear in her music video for You Need To Calm Down. 

In the video, Katy, who was dressed in a hamburger costume, hugged Taylor, who was dressed in a french fries costume, make their reconciliation public.  

‘We were just kind of reconnecting privately and just wanted to make sure that everything was really good with us and that it was like a very real thing before we let anyone know that we’re not only good but we’re friends again,’ added Taylor.
