Zayn Malik ‘deeply saddened’ by George Floyd killing as he posts statement amid nationwide protests

Zayn Malik has been preparing to welcome his first child with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid during quarantine.

And the former One Direction member has recently taken a break from social media as he reconnects with the supermodel.

He broke his Instagram silence Tuesday to release a statement on the police killing of unarmed black man George Floyd, which has resulted in Black Lives Matter protests nationwide.

The 27-year-old wrote: ‘What is happening right now is exactly what happens when you leave a wound untreated and act obliviously in its constant presence.

‘This uprising has escalated due to the racism, ignorance, and arrogance that burdens America and the world. I am deeply saddened by every act of discrimination and can not stay silent.’

Gigi, 25, wrote in her own lengthy statement last week: ‘Keep signing petitions, making calls to demand justice, speaking out (this is not just if you have a big platform- it starts in your homes and communities), and fighting to make a difference for every life that has been wrongly taken or effected by THE PANDEMIC OF RACISM.’

They also participated in the #BlackOutTuesday hashtag, which has drawn backlash for hijacking the #BlackLivesMatter feed with black squares instead of vital resources.

The couple has recently been in quarantine together at her mom Yolanda’s Pennsylvania farm.

Gigi officially revealed their pregnancy last month, after Yolanda confirmed the rumors on a Dutch TV show.

Gigi said after Jimmy Fallon congratulated her: ‘Thank you so much! Obviously, you know, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support so.’

According to TMZ, the couple is expecting a girl, and she was about 20 weeks along at the end of April.

Gigi and Zayn first began dating in 2015, and they rekindled their on-again, off-again relationship late last year.
