Big Brother housemate Daniel Gorringe recalls the brutal moment he was delisted from the AFL

Big Brother housemate Daniel Gorringe has discussed the moment he was delisted from the AFL in a tongue-in-cheek post about his time as an Australian rules footballer. 

In an unearthed column he wrote for Sportsbet last year, the 28-year-old hilariously informed ‘s*** kickers’ to look out for certain signs which meant they too would be getting the boot. 

Speaking from his own experience of being let go by the Gold Coast in 2015, Daniel explained that a player’s ‘delisting alarm bells should start ringing if they were scheduled to have meetings with other s*** kickers at the same time.’ 

‘You’ll start by meeting with the coaches who will bring in a piece of paper with stats from your year just to drive home the fact how bad you are,’ he wrote. 

After a player is officially delisted, Daniel continued ‘they will thank you for the time you have given to the club and wish you all the best.’ 

Daniel explained that a delisted player would then be forced to talk about their feelings to a club psychiatrist.

He recalled telling the health professional ‘I was just sacked two minutes ago I’m doing pretty s***. 

The athlete went on to be recruited by Carlton as a free agent but faced a setback during the 2017-pre-season when he suffered an injury to his Achilles again.

In his piece for Sportsbet, Daniel revealed he had a bad feeling about his future on the team – and handed in his resignation before anyone could delist him again. 

Daniel said, ‘I decided “retired” next to my name looks like I decided to walk away when really, I would have been delisted.

‘I know I am bad at footy, I don’t need everyone to know I’m bad again,’ he said. ‘End your career on your terms.’

Daniel rang in 26 games across seven seasons before he decided to retire in 2017.
