Emmy Rossum encourages fans to wear masks after an early 2020 selfie in full protective gear resurfaces: ‘This did not age well’

Early in January 2020, Emmy Rossum jokingly shared a picture in ski goggles, a helmet and white cloth face covering saying that ‘level of protection’ seemed ‘smart’ for 2020.

The message came months before the coronavirus would sweep across the globe and require face coverings in public in the U.S.

After a fan commented on Tuesday that the tweet ‘did not age well,’ the Shameless actress used the opportunity to tell fans to follow guidelines and wear masks in public.

Ahead of the curve: After a fan commented on Tuesday that an old tweet from Emmy Rossum ‘did not age well,’ as she wore protective gear months before the pandemic, she used the opportunity to tell fans to follow guidelines and wear masks in public

‘Well this was unfortunately prescient,’ she wrote of her earlier tweet.  ‘(Thanks for reminding me of this post @lilah_hart.) Also people WEAR A MASK.’

Her earlier tweet commented on her extensive face coverings and protective material saying at the time ‘Heading into 2020, this level of protection seems smart.’

Her post on Tuesday is not the first time she has processed feelings on social media during the coronavirus crisis.

‘The world is truly upside down. I just got out of bed [at 7am], like a normal person, made coffee, [and] questioned my existence,’ Rossum – who boasts 5.6M social media followers – said via Instastory late last month.

‘My husband got out of bed [at 7:02am] and was like, “Should I hop on the treadmill real quick?” What? Said him never!’

Emmy (born Emmanuelle) also remarked earlier this year how ‘every day feels the same now’ and how ‘overwhelming’ it feels now that the coronavirus has taken over every aspect of life.

The brunette New Yorker and her husband Sam Esmail were last seen producing and filming Peacock’s limited four-part miniseries Angelyne on March 12 just as productions shut down worldwide from the global pandemic.
