Rachel Riley cradles her daughter Maven, 8 months, as she leaves Countdown filming

She was recently forced to hit back after being branded ‘racist’ following an interaction with a football fan on Twitter.

And Rachel Riley had clearly put the drama behind her as she cradled her daughter Maven, eight months, as she departed MediaCityUK in Salford on Wednesday.

The TV star, 34, was also accompanied by her husband Pasha Kovalev as she left the studio following another day of filming Countdown.

Rachel was dressed for the current heatwave as she donned a black T-shirt with a scoop neckline and a pink shorts with a floral print.

The presenter also sported a pair of tan sandals for the day while she held Maven in a grey animal print wrap.

Also sporting a pair of sunglasses, Rachel completed her look by styling her blonde locks into loose waves.

It comes as the TV star became embroiled in a Twitter backlash on Monday after discussing her team Manchester United ahead of the Europa League quarter-final against Copenhagen in Cologne.

Rachel took to social media to discuss her team, admitting she thought footballer Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s name was Obi for ‘an embarrassing amount of this season’ on Monday.

Responding to her tweet one follower called her a ‘plastic glory hunter’, after saying all Manchester United fans thought the same as she did.

A glory hunter is defined by Urban Dictionary as a remark used for people who ‘only support the most successful clubs at the time’ and will ‘switch teams’ when the current one starts to fail.

In response, Rachel wrote: ‘Says Arsenal fan in India’ with a slew of laughing emojis, and people were quick to claim her tweet was racist.

After receiving backlash following the comment, Rachel hit back: ‘For the wilfully obtuse… It might be considered ironic, for someone supporting a club half way around the world, to call someone else a “plastic glory hunter”. End of.’

MailOnline has contacted Rachel’s representatives for comment.

Taking to Twitter to call her out on her remarks, one person wrote: ‘Rachel Riley should not be given a platform whatsoever.

‘Her latest racist post is completely vile and unbelievable but not surprising. She should have been sacked from @Channel4 Countdown years ago.’

While another added: ‘Rachel Riley is smart and educated. But here she is acting like the typical knuckle dragging racists you often see in the comments on Sky Sports News Facebook Page, by perpetuating the idea that someones nationality invalidates their opinion.’

Referring to Rachel’s involvement in antisemitism debates, one person wrote: ‘See what I mean, the comment was for what exactly? If we said “says the arsenal fan from Israel” using the same logic as Rachel Riley would backlash be “wilfully obtuse”.’

Others came to Rachel’s defence following the backlash, as one wrote: ‘I love how everyone keeps saying that they need to stop cancel culture when they decided to cancel Rachel Riley over a joke tweet that most people actually misunderstood.’

While another added: ‘So Rachel Riley is being called a racist in this instance for pointing out the irony of being called a plastic fan by an arsenal fan in India….. there really are some f*** idiots around honestly (sic).’

One said: ‘So I saw Rachel Riley trending, and looked up why. Christ people get angry at the drop of a hat these days.

‘Basically her tweet was “Glass houses”, turning the argument about plastic fans back at someone is not racism, you have to be intellectually bankrupt to think otherwise.’
