Channel Nine’s head of content admits the network ‘never wanted’ any of the affairs to happen on Married At First Sight as the eighth season kicks off

Married At First Sight has captivated viewers with an endless supply of drama since first premiering in 2015.

And as the eight season of the dating series kicked off on Monday, Channel Nine’s head of content has addressed the affairs previously taking place between contestants on the show.

Speaking to MediaWeek, Adrian Swift said the network ‘never wanted’ romance to blossom between unpaired participants.

‘We never wanted any of that to happen’: Channel Nine’s head of content, Adrian Swift, has revealed the network ‘never wanted’ any of the affairs to happen on the previous seasons of Married At First Sight as the eighth series premieres

‘All the extreme stuff on the show, and the affairs we never wanted any of that to happen,’ he said.

‘What makes the show so great is we don’t know what is going to happen.’

However, this year looks likely to be different to the other seasons, with Adrian telling the publication Channel Nine had weeded out people there for the wrong reasons – such as only wanted to be on television.

‘We have done a good job of mostly weeding those people out. We are in a place now where everybody that turns up to the alter thinks that this could be the person that they spend the rest of their life with,’ he said.

During the same season, Sam Ball called it quits with ‘wife’ Elizabeth Sobinoff after taking a shine to co-star Ines Basic.

The pair were filmed passionately kissing one another and were even caught in bed together.

Sam has since denied their relationship was a sham and set up by producers, despite Ines believing they were meant to be and planning to leave the show together.
