Pink will receive the ICON Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

Pink will receive the ICON Award at the 2021 Billboard Awards, becoming the ninth artist in history to receive the honor.

NBC and dick clark productions made the announcement in a press statement on Tuesday and also revealed that the three-time BBMA winner, 41, will perform at the ceremony on May 23.    

‘As a little girl, I always dreamed about being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world,’ Pink said in the statement. ‘Years later, to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award is hard to fathom!’

‘I feel so honored to join the ranks of music idols like Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder,’ the global superstar continued. ‘It’s a true “pinch me” moment and I feel humbled and blessed.’

Hosted by Nick Jonas, the 2021 BBMAs will broadcast live from Microsoft Theater at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. Held annually since 1990, the show honors the top-charting artists, tracks and albums of the year.

The prestigious ICON Award is bestowed on record-breaking artists for their impact on music.

The songstress (real name: Alecia Beth Moore) launched her career when she was about 14 years old, taking the stage name Pink, stylized as P!nk, around the same time. Released in 2000, her debut album Can’t Take Me Home went double platinum and sold over 4 million copies worldwide.

However, the turning point of her career came when she teamed up with singers Christina Aguilera and Mya along with rapper Lil Kim to perform a cover of Lady Marmalade for the soundtrack of the hit 2001 film Moulin Rouge!
