Telling all: Ciara threw it back to the nineties for her Fault Magazine cover with a bright and colorful photoshoot along with an interview where she talked about everything from her hair to her career to motherhood

For the photos, the beauty rocked a variety of hairstyles including some stunning floor length twists.

Her twists pooled on the floor as she perched on a four-legged stool in Nike sneakers and a retro T-shirt and black shorts with a full face of glam makeup.

On the cover she popped on some clear rose-colored sunglasses and had her hair done up in several voluminous twists which were segmented with brightly colored baubles on rubber bands.

For clothes Ciara was styled in a funky turtleneck tunic sweater in pink that read ‘chaos’ in red across the chest, a pink and red puffer coat and knee high red patent leather boots.

‘Hairstyles have always been an extension of my creative process as a music artist and in fashion,’ Ciara said. ‘I have been experimenting with my hair for as long as I can remember.

She continued: ‘Each time I wear my hair in an afro it comes with an inherent sense of identity and pride. You really stand out in a room, it’s like wearing a crown.’

The shoot seemed to echo her sentiments about bold hairstyles like crystal encrusted cornrows and in many cases, the styles sent a literal message.

In one image, she sported a ‘vote or die’ tank top with an over-sized afro that was adorned with clips that read ‘boss’, ‘queen’, ‘drippin,’ and ‘damn.’

'I never allowed the color of my skin or gender to hold me back from what I was meant for. With every door that was closed to me, I found a new and better one to open.'

And, in another style, Ciara’s hair was done in locks that were swept to one side with huge wooden beads and rings decorating the bottom as well as square wooden beads that read ‘melanin.’

‘I want the younger generation to look at my journey and despite many setbacks, I never gave up on pursuing what I dreamed,’ the pop star said.

‘I never allowed the color of my skin or gender to hold me back from what I was meant for. With every door that was closed to me, I found a new and better one to open.

‘I stayed true to my values and morals and never lost myself along this journey…and that’s not easy in this business. And most importantly, I want to be remembered as someone who cared and had an impact in the lives of the youth and beyond.’

'I LOVE being a mom and I am a better mom when my kids get to experience me doing what I love on and off the stage. I am a better person because of them and I feel like I have more fire under me to go after all that I want. It is important for me to show them that you have to work hard to get all you want out of life.'

Ciara has five-year-old son Future with her ex, rapper Future, and two-year-old daughter Sienna with her current husband Russell Wilson. In January she and Russell announced that they were expecting their second child together.

The mommy of two told Fault that the relationship she has with her NFL star husband, who she wed in 2016, has helped her to let down her guard.

‘I can come across guarded at times which I think stems from being a military brat and moving around so much,’ Ciara explained. ‘I would often have to leave friendships as they were just developing. That gave me a defense mechanism that can seem reserved.’ ‘

Since marrying the love of my life I have really been able to let my guard down and feel safe being vulnerable. I can also be a bit OCD about things!’
