Locke & Key has been renewed for a second season by Netflix: ‘More keys, more demons, more aloha’

The streaming business is booming for platforms like Netflix.

And on Monday it was announced that the Netflix series Locke & Key, which debuted last month, is already being picked up for a second season.

Based on the best-selling IDW graphic novels by Joe Hill – son of legendary horror novelist Stephen King – Locke & Key follows three siblings who, after the mysterious murder of their father, move to their ancestral home named Keyhouse, to find the house hides magical keys that give them various remarkable powers and abilities.

The series, which combines elements of fantasy, horror and drama, is in the tradition of Stranger Things, Netflix’s monster hit that is currently gearing up for its fourth season.

News of the season two renewal was revealed to fans via an Instagram post on the show’s official account, which featured a brief video animation showing an ornate key like the ones seen in the show, with the number ‘2’ incorporated into its handle. 

‘More keys, more demons, more aloha,’ the caption read. ‘Locke & Key is officially returning for season two!!’ 

The first season of Locke & Key starred Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones and Jackson Robert Scott as the Locke siblings – now Keepers of the Keys – along with Darby Stanchfield, Laysla De Oliveira, Aaron Ashmore, Petrice Jones and Griffin Gluck.

The spooky series went through roughly a decade of development with three different networks and streaming services before landing at Netflix.

Locke &Key’s 10-episode first season debuted on February 7, to mixed reviews, pegging a 66 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.   

‘We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke And Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators,’ said executive producers and co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, according to Deadline
