The shows – the first two dramatic shows the network’s 2020-21 season – were created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear (who’s the showrunner of both), with 9-11 focused on first responders in the City of Angels.

The cast of 9-1-1, which is heading into its fourth season, includes Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Rockmond Dunbar, Ronda Rousey and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

9-1-1: Lone Star, entering its second season, is set in Austin, Texas and stars Rob Lowe, Liv Tyler, Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra Aylina McClain and Jim Parrack.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn called the shows ‘two of the strongest and most thrilling dramas on broadcast television’ with ‘jaw-dropping, edge-of-your-seat magic’ in a statement Monday following the renewals.

‘From Los Angeles earthquakes and tsunamis to Texas-sized tornadoes and bucking broncos, both shows deliver incredible spectacle with strong, identifiable characters you care about week to week,’ Thorn said. ‘We eagerly look forward to many more thrilling rescues in both series, which help honor this country’s brave first responders, as well as those around the world.’

Other shows Fox has picked up for the fall season include animated series including The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bless the Harts and Duncanville. The network also has deals with the NFL and WWE for programming in the upcoming season.

The show was renewed amid a time where production of most TV shows has been suspended due to the lockdown stemming from the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, with many entertainers streaming content from their homes as officials advise to stay at home.

The international pandemic has impacted a number of celebrities, as Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Idris Elba and Andy Cohen are among the notable names who have tested positive, as well as Prince Charles and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Other Hollywood stars to test positive for coronavirus include actresses Ali Wentworth, Olga Kurylenko, Debi Mazar and Rachel Matthews; and actors Kristofer Hivju and Daniel Dae Kim.

Performers to succumb to coronavirus-related symptoms include Jaws actress Lee Fierro, 91, Aliens actor Jay Benedict, 68, and Nashville actor Allen Garfield, 80.

As of Monday, the death total for COVID-19 was at 23,369 people in the U.S., The COVID Tracking Project reported, with 576,774 total positive diagnoses. On a global level, 119,666 people have died amid 119,666 positive diagnoses worldwide, Johns Hopkins University reported.
