It’s possible one of the other special guests may be Tom Hanks, who starred as the band’s manager, Mr. White, and also made his feature writing and directing debut on the film.

That Thing You Do follows a local Pennsylvania band who, in 1964 have a one-hit wonder hit with their song titled That Thing You Do, as they ride their brief wave of stardom with the help of Mr. White.

The actual song That Thing You Do was written and composed by the late Fountains of Wayne singer Adam Schlesinger, who passed away in early April at just 52 years of age, due to complications from COVID-19.

Both Schaech and Embry confirmed in responses to their tweets that they will be watching the theatrical edition of That Thing You Do, and not the director’s cut.

While the film only grossed $34.5 million worldwide during its theatrical release in 1996, it has a devoted fan base that is still quite strong to this day.

The film also features early performances from future stars such as Charlize Theron, Bryan Cranston, Kevin Pollak and Paul Feig.
