EXCLUSIVE ‘He was very charming’: David Beckham splashes out £400 in one shopping spree at Cotswolds deli after angering neighbours with plans to develop his country home

David Beckham splashed out £400 in one shopping spree at a Cotswolds deli – after angering neighbours over plans to increase security at his farmhouse estate.

The former footballer, 45, spent hundreds on fruit and vegetables during a trip with daughter Harper, eight, to family run business Mrs Bumbles in Burford, Oxfordshire.

A source told MailOnline David was ‘charming’ and his visit to the shop was the ‘talk of the town’ among locals.

They added: ‘David spent £400 on fruit and vegetables during one shop at Mrs Bumbles Deli.

‘It’s now become one of his favourite spots as he’s returned with Harper four times in three weeks to restock on his fresh fruit and veg.

‘Harper is very much a daddy’s girl and the trip was definitely a time for them to bond together.

‘The owners were over the moon after he spent so much – they told staff not to take photos in case that stopped David from coming back.’

David’s generosity follows reports he’s ‘at war’ with neighbours over plans to build a gatehouse at his Oxford home for two round-the-clock security guards at the entrance.

The ex-England captain and his former Spice Girls star wife Victoria, 46, are said to be ‘ruining the ambiance of the picturesque village’ – as furious neighbours object to the latest building works.

The Beckhams hoped to convince those living in the upmarket area of their plans by saying the gatehouse would ‘improve security for occupants’ of the mansion and its surrounding grounds.

‘Ruining the ambience’: David’s generosity follows reports he and Victoria are ‘at war’ with neighbours over plans to build a gatehouse at their Oxford home for two security guards

David and Victoria have been isolating at their Cotswolds home with three of their children, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper.

The famous family angered neighbours by relocating from London to their second home in Oxfordshire at the start lockdown.

They were branded ‘selfish’ by one local, who told MailOnline in April: ‘The Beckhams and these other fancy folks who think it’s a good idea to self-isolate in the country are just being selfish.’

A local counsellor shared their views at the time saying: ‘Showing off your beautiful country mansion on social media and telling us all what a wonderful time you’re having is just rubbing our noses in it.

‘The Beckhams and other celebrities are just being stupid, irresponsible and insensitive.’
