Emmerdale star Chris Bisson reveals dramatic transformation as he has a hair transplant

‘As soon as you lose your hair, you lose work’: Emmerdale star Chris Bisson, 44, unveils the results of his hair transplant… after undergoing the procedure to ‘protect his career’

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson revealed on Saturday that he has had a hair transplant in order to protect his career.

The actor, 44, said on Saturday that he underwent the treatment as he feared being given ‘older’ roles as a result of his looks, and before-and-after snaps of the star revealed his dramatic transformation.

Chris, who plays Jai Sharma in the soap, said: ‘As soon as you start losing your hair you’re immediately cast older, so it does reduce the amount of parts you can play.

Before: In a snap prior to his treatment the actor could be seen with a receding hairline which has now been fixed

Making a change: Emmerdale star Chris Bisson revealed on Saturday his transformation as he had a hair transplant after concerns his looks would mean he’d be cast in ‘older roles’

‘If you are 40 and bald you probably get cast as being 45 or 50. It can affect your career.

‘There are definitely more parts for actors who have a full head of hair. You don’t know what opportunities might be lost.’

The photos of the star, which were taken at Manchester’s Farjo Hair Institute, saw Chris sport a thicker head of hair as his receding hairline was fixed.

Discussing his reasoning for getting the treatment, Chris added: ‘I didn’t want to make myself look younger, particularly. I just wanted to stop the hairline going back too far and retain some definition around my face.

‘Now the procedures are done I’m happy with the results. I’m relaxed and confident about how I look.’

Chris went on to say that he noticed his hair loss in his ‘early to mid 30s’, and spoke to fellow co-stars who had hair transplant treatments to talk to them about the results and how it made them feel.

Chris went on:  ‘In film and TV it’s quite a common procedure for male actors.

‘It’s one of those things where people say, “Oh my, he’s had a hair transplant”, and then they forget about it.’

Emmerdale became the first British soap to resume filming with a ‘phased back’ return last month, featuring special lockdown episodes.

Amid the return following the government’s easing of lockdown rules, soap bosses issued guidelines on set, which included strict two-metre distancing and temperature testing.

The soap began a phased return in order to minimise risk of infection at the studio, with Nicola Wheeler and Eden Taylor Draper among the first to return.

Due to the lockdown, many stars have shaved their heads or dyed their locks which has been said to cause some continuity errors, but Chris claimed he wouldn’t have that issue.

He explained: ‘I’ve not been able to have mine cut since before we went into lockdown, so Jai is going to have quite a lot of hair when you see him on screen again!’
