Richard Wilkins shares his joy as he announces the birth of his ‘perfect’ new granddaughter

Richard Wilkins has announced his daughter Rebecca has welcomed her second child with husband James Bateman.

On Tuesday, the 66-year-old shared a photo to Instagram meeting his family’s newest addition for the first time. 

‘What a joy to meet my brand new granddaughter, Abigail Rose Wilkins Bateman – how perfect,’ he began his emotional post. 

In the photograph, Richard is seen beaming with pride as he cradles the little one in his arms.

‘Congratulations Bec, James and big sister Bella#granddaddypappabear,’ he said.

On Saturday, Richard left his co-stars shocked on Weekend Today when he confirmed the happy news, sharing a string of pictures as he revealed he was a grandfather once again.

‘I became a granddad for the second time, on Thursday,’ he spontaneously announced. 

‘My beautiful daughter Becky and her husband James had a beautiful little daughter, Abigail Rose Wilkins.

‘Becky I love you darling, I’m so proud of you,’ he added. 

‘I did not know this!’ his ecstatic co-host Sophie Walsh exclaimed beside him, while Rebecca Maddern opened her mouth in shock. 

He was then asked what name he goes by as a grandfather, to which he responded: ‘I’m grandaddy Papa Bear. I’ve got the T-shirts and coffee mugs to prove it!’ 

He went on to say that he was set to meet the little one in days to come.

Richard has had three marriages and shares five children with four mothers; Adam, Rebecca, Nick, Christian and Estella.

Rebecca is his second oldest child and eldest daughter.

Besides their new arrival, Rebecca and her husband James are already proud parents to daughter Bella.
