Rochelle Humes says raising her own family has given her ‘closure’ on her relationship with her dad

Rochelle Humes has revealed raising her own family has given her ‘closure’ on her relationship with her estranged father Mark Piper in a new interview.

The singer-turned-presenter, 30 – who shares Alaia-Mai, six, and Valentina, two, with husband Marvin Humes – gushed her daughters are ‘so lucky’ to grow up with a dad after being single-handedly brought up by her ‘superwoman’ mother, Roz Wiseman.

Speaking in April’s issue of Red magazine, the media personality also touched on reconnecting with her siblings, her new children’s bath range, and completely ruled out a musical comeback.

‘Marvin is the dad I would’ve given my right arm for’: Rochelle Humes has revealed raising her own family has given her ‘closure’ on her relationship with her estranged father

Rochelle – whose parents divorced when she was only three – recalled her childhood in a single-parent household: ”For a long time it was just me and mum.

‘She was sort of like Wonder Woman because my relationship with my dad was non-existent.’

The This Morning host admitted she became ‘curious’ about her father, which pushed her to track him down at the age of 17.

On their first encounter in her teens, the TV star shared: ‘I was so nervous, but I was open-minded; my mum had been very good at not talking negatively of my dad.

‘When I got there, that’s when I realized he had two more daughters and a son that he was raising.

‘Bless her, my mum had always said to me, ”You know, some daddies just aren’t very good with daughters – mummies are better with girls.”

‘Before that meeting, I had it in my head that he was going to tell me there had been a reason for him not being around.’

Despite failing to form a strong bond with Mark, Rochelle later forged ‘successful’ relationships with her long-lost half-siblings, Love Island star Sophie Piper, 21, Lili, 24, and Jake, 23 – who her father shares with new partner Julie.

‘It was like looking into a mirror when I met them’, she highlighted. ‘Growing up, I think that was weird for my sisters, because they were always being told they looked like that [singer] Rochelle.’

The former S Club 8 singer enthused about being close with her new-found family members: ‘I think the key to it all is trying not to overthink the relationship.

‘It helps that the kids don’t know any different; they don’t remember a time when Auntie Lili, Auntie Sophie and Uncle Jake weren’t around. But it’s not like we’re all sat there braiding one another’s hair.’

The Ninja Warrior UK presenter insisted she ‘hasn’t been fussed’ about her division from her father since having kids of her own with JLS star Marvin, 34.

‘It’s definitely given me the closure I was searching for when it came to my dad’, Rochelle confessed.

‘There are times when Marvin’s chucking the kids up in the air and they’re saying, ”Daddy, get off me!”and I shout, ”Noooo! Let Daddy!” Because they don’t know how lucky they are. Marv is the dad I would’ve given my right arm for.’

The curly-haired beauty rose to fame as a member of British pop group The Saturdays, touring the globe with Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Mollie King and Vanessa White from 2007 utnil their disbandment in 2014.

Shutting down any hope of a future reunion, the songstress said: ‘Absolutely not. I’m grown up enough to never say never, but no, I really can’t.

‘I don’t know how people do it. I don’t think that lifestyle would work for my family at all. We’re realistic about that. We know that if we want one of us to always be there as a constant for the kids, we can’t both shine at the same time.’

In the work department, Rochelle recently launched her own children’s hair and beauty range called My Little Coco.

Detailing the inspiration behind her new project, she explained: ‘It’s something I’ve been working on for three years, ever since I was pregnant with Valle [Valentina]. It’s been a complete labour of love.

‘The concept was the easy part; it’s all coconut-based because I’ve always used coconut oil on the kids, but the rest has been a real challenge. It needed to be authentic and mum-tested.’
